Passage in the Port Area as of 1 July 2004

The new international port security regulations, known as ISPS code (ISPS = International Ship and Port Facility Security) issued by IMO (International Maritime Organisation) will come into force on 1 July 2004. The regulations are intended to increase maritime safety in ports and aboard vessels. The safety regulations call for more effective passage control in the port area. The security arrangements also improve traffic and work safety in the port.
Upon request, those wanting to enter and move around in the port area must prove their identity and explain the reason for their presence in the area.
CONSIGNMENTS DELIVERED TO VESSELS
The sender/transporter of cargo must inform the vessel representative in advance of their arrival in the port area.
