 Transit cargo to the north goes by way of Oulu. To Russia, for instance, there are good railway and highway connections from the Port of Oulu.
The very important harbour in the Port of Oulu is Oritkari harbour. It is being expanded in stages. The growing container traffic is concentrated at this harbour. In addition, a new terminal for combined transports is being built near the harbour. The other harbours at the Nuottasaari, Vihreäsaari and Toppila harbours.
